Description:
American films have always been popular in Jamaica, but few film
genres were as popular as the spaghetti western. The fondness for
this genre was frequently reflected in titles, artist names and
lyrical themes. everyone is familiar with The Skatalites' rendition
of 'The Guns of Navarone' or the Lee Perry albums
'Clint Eastwood', 'The Good, The Bad And The
Upsetters' and 'Return Of Django'. But also artists
and producers like Derrick Harriott, Clancy Eccles and of course
Jimmy Cliff's 'The Harder They Come' movie breathed a love
for the genre. The height of this worship took place in the period
1969-1972, which was also the heyday of so-called boss reggae. This
is also the genre in which The Upsessions have excelled.
The Upsessions were formed in 2005 and since then they have
released five studio albums, the last of which dates back ten
years. For this album, they collaborated with none other than
reggae legend Monty Neysmith: co-founder and composer of Symarip,
The Pyramids and Seven Letters. His career dates back to the days
of Blue Beat records and Trojan Records and his songs such as
'Skinhead Moonstomp' and 'Skinhead Girl' are
known worldwide and have been covered by Bad Manners, Judge Dread
and The Specials, among others.
Together The Upsessions and Monty Neysmith recorded 13 brand new
tracks. The album 'Sheriff Double Gun' is a tribute to the Jamaican
adoration of spaghetti westerns. To promote the album The
Upsessions will tour all over Europe and the UK including a tour
with The Pioneers.
Special attention to the cover design. It is hand painted by Dutch
artist Willem Bergisch. In the exact style as the old Western
movies & comics, definitely a real piece of art!
